In Episode 26 of the voyage, the HMS Resolution prepares to leave Tahiti—but not before a cascade of final events unfolds. The episode begins with a dramatic dance performance in honor of the captains, starring Princess Tauraï, whose grace outshines even past memories of Ulietea. While Lieutenant Pickersgill seeks provisions inland, Georg and Sparrmann remain aboard, later joining a botanical expedition that leads them to discover the stunning Barringtonia tree.

The journey continues with generous Tahitian hospitality: coconut water, massage rituals, and a modest but nourishing meal in a local home. Yet tensions remain high. A sailor is publicly punished with twelve lashes to repair relations after an earlier assault on a local. King O-Tu, initially alarmed, is reassured when the offenders are disciplined and when Cook presents him with sheep. Trust is finally restored—sealed with gifts and bagpipe music.
The episode ends with a dramatic farewell. Potatau, a noble chief, defies fearful pleas and boards the ship with his extended family. Meanwhile, a young Tahitian named Porea leaves his home to travel to Britain. Though his resolve wavers, he is comforted by Cook and Georg’s father, embracing his new path with hope.
